The day that all hunters look forward to in Texas has come: Sept. 1. That day marks the onset of hunting season. We all know that early teal season is close and most of us cherish some upland hunting as a great way to get our retrievers, and us, back in shape.
Early reports from around the state said that the dove season kicked off with a bang or two as hunters saw lots of birds. Despite the heat, dove season lets us know how rusty we are with our shooting as well as that we are fortunate not to have to hunt for our meals every day.
Lone Star Hunting Retriever Club members were very enthusiastic to hit the fields Monday and photos are coming in to us so we will be sure to post them. I, too, learned that I need some more practice in the field, but my lab got to make some nice retrieves in heavy cover, which made her day...and mine.
Until next time, happy hunting and be safe!
